Protecting engineering data is part of manufacturing quality. When a customer shares CAD models, engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications with a supplier, those files may include proprietary information, Federal Contract Information (FCI), or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
What is CMMC? The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program provides an assessment approach for applicable cybersecurity safeguards among US defense contractors. Level 1 concerns foundational safeguarding of FCI. Level 2 addresses CUI protection through security requirements drawn from NIST SP 800-171. Level 3 adds advanced requirements for selected programs. Actual assessment and contract obligations depend on the specific procurement.
Why does it matter to customers? A supplier that controls access to engineering information, manages devices and storage appropriately, and maintains documented information security procedures can reduce the risk of improper disclosure or loss of sensitive project data. Security and manufacturing quality are complementary responsibilities.
At Relentless Manufacturing, we are actively implementing CMMC-related cybersecurity safeguards and preparing our assessment documentation. These efforts are in progress; we do not currently claim CMMC certification. Customers should identify CUI, export controls and related contractual flowdowns when requesting a quote so information-handling obligations can be evaluated prior to sharing restricted files.
Our commitment is to protect customer technical information with the same discipline we bring to precision machining, measurement and traceability.
